How to Use digital scrapbooking software to Frame Memories

September 18, 2010

Scrapbooking is growing at a rapid pace, mostly in part because it’s a unique way to create memory books for yourself or loved ones. digital scrapbooking software allows you to create an actual work of art rather than just sticking your photos in a photo album and set it on a shelf.
Digital scrapbooking kits have all kinds of different themes to suit your needs including ones like new baby, weddings, birthdays, seasons, teens, driving, camping and other fun hobbies and special occasions. If you’re into scrapbooking and you want to try digital scrapbooking, here is how you can begin to put each page together.

1.  Scan or transfer digital photos onto your computer.
2.  Read the software instructions. This is an important step that should not be skipped. Though most digital scrapbooking software programs will work in basically the same way it’s always best to get a good grasp of how it works before you get excited and just dive into creating pages not knowing how.
3.  Set up a blank canvas. You can use any photo editing software to do this and the most popular are probably Photoshop and Gimp which is free. So you’ll want to open a new file that’s blank to start fresh and then choose a size. Since your pages will be printed you want to shoot for around 300 dpi so that you get a clear page when it’s printed.
4.  Select the photos you wish to use. You can always change this later but choose the photos you want to use and how large or small you want them.
5.  Choose a background. digital scrapbooking software kits will come with different background designs that you can choose from. Choose one that seems to mesh well with the photos you have chosen for that particular page.
6. Consider making your photos pop. Photographs will catch the eye if you add a box underneath the photo that is slightly larger than the photo itself. You can use a rectangle, circle, square or any other shape that you wish.
7.  Add text. Text to include would be titles and captions for photos and/or page. Most digital scrapbooking kits will also include at least one alphabet with letters that coordinate well with the backgrounds that you have. This is where you can really begin to personalize each scrapbook page.
8.  Add finishing touches. Once you have finished with the layout of the photos and have text, it’s time to embellish and you can do so as little or as much as you’d like. Things to use include ribbon, brads, journaling blocks, glitter, etc. The possibilities are really endless and that’s what scrapbooking is all about.

These steps should help you get started in playing around with digital scrapbooking software. What makes scrapbooking fun is having the ability to move things around as you see fit until you are happy with the result. Once you have everything in place, go all out and embellish with different scrapbooking and crafting supplies.
